  Introduction

No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, it represents a major investment and you deserve the best possible performance and operating efficiencies its engine can deliver. Unfortunately, most of us operate our vehicles in adverse conditions including dusty and polluted air, high and low temperatures, stop-and-go traffic and short-distance driving.

All of these situations cause engine oil to become contaminated with harmful deposits and abrasive particles that break down conventional motor oils, oil additives and engine treatments. Consequently, these products lose their ability to completely protect vital engine parts from friction even under normal driving conditions. And friction, as you know, is your engine's worst enemy. It causes wear, creates excessive heat, wastes energy and reduces power, performance and efficiency.

  Engine friction and wear

CONVENTIONAL MOTOR OILS, OIL ADDITIVES AND ENGINE TREATMENTS CAN'T STOP FRICTION AND WEAR

Conventional motor oils, oil additives and engine treatments attempt to counteract friction's effects by increasing the viscosity (thickness) and lubricity (slipperiness) of motor oil to create a "gap" between metal surfaces.

The major problem with this approach is that more than 50 percent of all mechanical engine wear occurs during the first few minutes after start-up while oil is still being pumped up from the oil pan to vital engine parts. This means that conventional motor oils, oil additives and engine treatments do not provide complete protection from friction and damaging metal-to-metal contact during this critical period. And since modern engines have closer engineered tolerances and operate at higher temperatures and RPM's, even a small amount of wear is significant.

Until TRIBOTECH IJP, there were three major types of oil additives and engine treatments: 1) viscosity improvers, 2) chlorinated products and 3) solid-film lubricants.

  Frequently asked questions

What does I.J.P. stand for?

I.J.P. stands for Intermetallic Junction Preventative. Intermetallic junctions are the essence of friction and wear. They are microscopic physical barriers created by the natural exchange of molecules between metal surfaces moving in close proximity, such as pistons in cylinders. Since metal parts are constantly losing molecules, all adjacent metal surfaces are, in effect, always wearing.

Are oil additives and engine treatments really necessary?

Without additives, refined crude oil simply could not protect an engine. Extensive "additive packages" are added to motor oil by the manufacturers. In fact, some brands may contain up to 40 percent additives. In addition, a major oil company recently confirmed that engine treatments offer significant benefits over untreated motor oil!

Will using TRIBOTECH IJP void my new car warranty?

Absolutely not! Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 USC, 2302 and the Clean Air Act, 42 USC, 7451 a vehicle manufacturer cannot void their warranty simply because a consumer chooses to use goods or services not recognized or approved by the manufacturer. Generally speaking, vehicle manufacturers neither approve nor disapprove of the use of oil additives or engine treatments, nor do they endorse or recommend the use of specific brands of motor oil.

Can TRIBOTECH IJP be used in both old and new engines?

Yes! Conventional motor oils, oil additives and engine treatments attempt to reduce friction and wear by increasing viscosity and lubricity. However, under high operating temperatures and pressures, high-viscosity lubricants can actually deform and permanently damage metal surfaces. Modern engines, which use lighter alloy components, operate at higher RPM's and hotter temperatures, and are built to tighter engineered tolerances, are particularly vulnerable to this type of damage.

Fortunately, TRIBOTECH IJP works on the microscopic level. Therefore, it will not interfere with engineered tolerances. In addition, TRIBOTECH IJP does not rely on viscosity for its lubricity. Moreover, TRIBOTECH IJP works synergistically with all motor oils-natural and synthetic. During each treatment, by improving film strength, lubricity and stability, motor oils perform better and last longer.

TRIBOTECH IJP employs a balanced approach to lubrication. Its natural formulation does not contain chemicals or other ingredients that can disturb the "additive packages" already in motor oils or harm sensors and nonmetallic components, such as rubber and gaskets. Therefore, TRIBOTECH IJP can be used with confidence in all new, old or rebuilt gas, diesel and turbo automobile and truck engines. TRIBOTECH IJP also provides superior protection for engines using alternate fuels such as methanol.

How does TRIBOTECH IJP protect metal surfaces?

TRIBOTECH IJP is the only product that counteracts friction starting at the molecular level by creating a protective shield that keeps metal surfaces from losing molecules that form intermetallic junctions.

MotorEven though machined metal appears to be smooth, all metal surfaces are actually quite rough. A powerful microscope would reveal jagged peaks and valleys resembling the surface of the moon.

Through patented molecular engineering processes, TRIBOTECH IJP bonds with the lubricated metal surfaces in an engine. It makes them smoother and far more resistant to friction, wear and damaging metal-to-metal contact-without affecting engineered tolerances. This microscopic action is controlled by TRIBOTECH IJP's synthesis of revolutionary "Intelligent Lubricants". In addition, TRIBOTECH IJP's novel formulation of non-drying lubricity agents provides an unprecedented level of engine protection. TRIBOTECH IJP's "Controlled Action" cleaners dissolve and inhibit the formation of harmful engine deposits.

TRIBOTECH IJP provides additional protection during the initial treatment by giving motor oil greater ability to hold dissolved deposits in suspension safely away from metal surfaces until your next oil and filter change.

How does using TRIBOTECH IJP help the environment?

TRIBOTECH IJP helps protect the environment in two ways. First, TRIBOTECH IJP conserves natural resources by reducing the consumption of fuel and oil. Second, independent tests show that TRIBOTECH IJP reduces exhaust emissions.

TRIBOTECH IJP's emissions-reducing capability is particularly beneficial during the first few minutes after start-up. Emissions are higher at this time because catalytic converters require several minutes of operation before becoming fully effective. In Los Angeles, for example, recent studies indicate that almost 50 percent of the air pollution is attributable to driving short distances.

Why won't TRIBOTECH IJP clog oil filters?

TRIBOTECH IJP is formulated to dissolve and prevent deposits that can clog filters. Also, because TRIBOTECH IJP works on the molecular level, its microscopic ingredients do not bond together to form larger particles as they can in some solid-film lubricants. TRIBOTECH IJP cannot cause filtration problems.

Since TRIBOTECH IJP bonds with metals, will it affect the oil galleries in my engine?

Definitely not! TRIBOTECH IJP's protective action is a controlled process that occurs at the microscopic, submicron level. A micron is equivalent to .000039 inch. Oil galleries are considerably larger - no smaller than 1/8 inch.

In what ways does TRIBOTECH IJP differ from Teflon/ PTFE-based engine treatments and other solid-film lubricants?
(These include: Slick50, T-Plus, QMI, Tuf Oil)

Chemically, PTFE is classified as a fluorocarbon. When used as a colloid, PTFE is a solid-film lubricant consisting of solid particles of a fluorocarbon polymer (an inert, plastic-like substance) suspended in a carrier oil.

It's claimed that the solid particles in these products are burnished or rubbed onto metal surfaces to prevent metal-to-metal contact. However, since there are no chemical processes occurring, this "burnishing-in" effect is entirely mechanical and, therefore, uncontrolled. As a result, engineered tolerances may be affected. In any event, there are many engine parts that require lubrication where burnishing cannot occur.

Another significant problem regarding the theory behind these products is the fact that all metal surfaces are inherently rough. Since this roughness is random in nature, it is highly improbable that the sizes of the solid particles (typically between 2 and 5 microns on average) used in solid-film lubricants can create uniformly smooth surfaces.

The problem is compounded by engine size since one quart is recommended for all 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines. What happens to the excess solid particles when used in smaller engines with less metal surface area? The solid particles may cause serious oil flow and filtration problems. Under certain conditions, these solid particles can bond with each other to accelerate this problem. This tendency may also contribute to sludge formation.

TRIBOTECH IJP, however, is a scientifically controlled process that works on the molecular level. TRIBOTECH IJP is not a solid-film lubricant, is not self-bonding, and does not cause filtration problems. Moreover, TRIBOTECH IJP possesses a superior affinity for all metals. TRIBOTECH IJP offers more complete engine protection than any other product available, including those containing Teflon or PTFE.

How does TRIBOTECH IJP differ from chlorinated additives?
(These include: Prolong, Motor Up, Duralube, Militec, Lubricator 2001)

All of the general distinctions we've already made between TRIBOTECH IJP and other engine treatments also apply to chlorinated additives. The following additional points should make TRIBOTECH IJP's superiority even more obvious.

  1. TRIBOTECH IJP was designed and formulated specifically to reduce friction and wear in internal combustion engines. Chlorinated lubricants were not. Although products containing chlorinated paraffins and other highly chlorinated agents are being advertised as "new, space-age" technology, they have actually been used for decades in "open" industrial systems such as gears, cables and conveyors where there is continuous extreme pressure. In addition to substantial amounts of solvent, these "extreme pressure" additives often contain more than 50 percent by volume of chlorinated agents. When heated, significant amounts of the chlorine in these agents can escape and combine with the hydrocarbons in oil to form corrosive hydrochloric acid. For this reason, these lubricants were never intended for use in "closed" systems such as automotive engines.

Presumably, automotive chlorinated engine treatments have been made less corrosive than their industrial-grade cousins. Even so, it makes little sense to add inherently corrosive agents to an engine's motor oil when there is a safe, non-corrosive alternative: namely, TRIBOTECH IJP.

  2. The protection provided by chlorinated lubricants is comparatively scant. Chlorine molecules adhere to metals only in a single layer that is easily dislodged or "washed away". In contrast, TRIBOTECH IJP's "Intelligent Lubricants" form a chemical and physical bond with metal surfaces. We recommend re-treatment every 60,000 miles, two years or ten (10) oil changes, whichever occurs first.

  3. Chlorine molecules adhere only to ferrous (iron and steel) surfaces and not to other metals and advanced alloys such as aluminum, titanium and nikasil that are replacing ferrous metals in many modern automotive engines. In contrast, TRIBOTECH IJP has an affinity for all metals.

  4. Chlorinated engine treatments are more costly over time. Because of the chlorine molecule's weakness in adhering (not bonding) to ferrous metal as well as its tendency to evaporate, "booster" treatments must be repeated at frequent intervals - generally, at every oil change. Lack of adherence and evaporation are not an issue with TRIBOTECH IJP because its "Intelligent Lubricants" become an integral part of your engine's lubricated metal parts.

What about the claim that chlorinated additives work faster?

The answer hinges on how "work" is defined. These additives appear to "work" quickly on the small, hand-operated "friction testers" you may have seen demonstrated on television. However, these devices do not even come close to duplicating the complexity or the harsh conditions that exist in automotive engines.

For an engine treatment to be effective, it must be applied to clean metal surfaces, and it is important how an engine's lubricated metal surfaces are cleaned. As mentioned earlier, chlorinated engine treatments generally contain solvents, which prevent other ingredients from separating. However, large amounts of these substances-as much as 20 percent by volume in some products-can have a harsh and indiscriminate cleansing effect. In automotive engines, oil additives containing high levels of solvents may dry out and damage non-metallic parts, solvents can also reduce the ability of motor oil to protect vital engine parts. Moreover, the high levels of chlorinated paraffins in these products may contribute to deposit formation.

In contrast, TRIBOTECH IJP contains ingredients which are natural detergents. These substances clean lubricated metal surfaces with a "controlled action" that works gradually and without harming nonmetallic parts or compromising the ability of motor oils (natural and synthetic) and their additive packages to perform their functions. This gentle cleaning action and the chemical and physical bonding processes of TRIBOTECH IJP's non-deposit-forming "intelligent lubricants" may take a few hundred miles of driving to reach maximum effectiveness. However, TRIBOTECH IJP not only begins to "work" immediately, it also provides more benefits and continues to work longer than any other type of engine treatment.

Recent television commercials have demonstrated engines running without motor oil. Are these tests real?

While these tests appear to be dramatic, the engines shown are operating on engine stands or dynamometers for periods of 10 minutes or less. These brief demonstrations do not even come close to duplicating engine stress in "real world" driving situations.

For the record, a number of test vehicles treated with TRIBOTECH IJP have been driven without oil hundreds of miles under otherwise normal conditions. At the conclusion of the tests, the engines were found to be undamaged, and virtually no wear was detected. While TRIBOTECH IJP has successfully protected engines in these test situations, no engine should be operated without oil.

How have your claims for TRIBOTECH IJP been tested?

TRIBOTECH IJP was in development and testing for more than five years. Our test vehicles included not only older high-mileage vehicles but also mechanically sophisticated newer vehicles with multi-valve engines.

TRIBOTECH IJP's benefits were based on numerous tests using production vehicles under actual driving conditions-not on engine stands or in controlled laboratory tests using non production or modified engines. TRIBOTECH IJP has also been independently tested by automotive experts across the country using their own procedures and criteria. They also achieved impressive results.

The ideal way to test the performance of a motor oil, oil additive or engine treatment is in actual use. In addition to our extraordinarily high level of customer satisfaction, TRIBOTECH IJP is used extensively in farming vehicles because this industry demands products that reduce operating costs, minimize down time and can withstand harsh operating conditions. TRIBOTECH IJP is also used by aerospace companies, industrial operations and municipalities in emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and police cars. TRIBOTECH IJP performs in the real world, when and where it really matters!

How often do I need to treat my engine with TRIBOTECH IJP?

We recommend retreatment with TRIBOTECH IJP every 60,000 miles, two years or 10 oil changes, whichever comes first. Due to a variety of reasons, however, your actual results may vary. Since all lubricants tend to lose efficacy with use and over time, no motor oil, oil additive or engine treatment can provide single-treatment protection for the life of an engine. However, TRIBOTECH IJP provides the most complete engine protection and the widest range of benefits compared to any motor oil (natural and synthetic), oil additive or engine treatment.

Go to top

Can TRIBOTECH IJP be used in diesel engines?

Yes! TRIBOTECH IJP's combination approach to lubrication provides outstanding results in diesel. Since TRIBOTECH IJP dramatically reduces friction, heat and wear as well as improves the "sealing" ability of motor oil, compression and RPM's are increased which makes combustion more efficient. This improves power, performance and fuel economy. In addition, exhaust emissions and smoke are significantly reduced.

Since diesel creates combustion by compression, even a small amount of wear is significant. The natural by-product of diesel fuel combustion is particulate matter, commonly known as soot. The primary anti-wear/lubricity agent used in motor oils is ZDDP (zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate). Unfortunately, soot absorbs the ZDDP before the oil can deposit it on metal surfaces. The soot also acts as an abrasive which causes additional wear. Excessive wear reduces compression and increases "blow by" which contaminates the oil and greatly reduces its ability to protect vital engine parts. Fortunately, TRIBOTECH IJP is not affected by this damaging process.

Go to top

How much TRIBOTECH IJP should I add to my engine?

No matter how many cylinders your engine has or how large or small the displacement, if the crankcase capacity is four to six quarts, one 14-ounce treatment is the ideal amount to produce the maximum benefit. Using less reduces the treatment's overall effects. For engines with larger capacities, smaller capacities or dry sumps, use one (1) part (10%) TRIBOTECH IJP to nine (9) parts (90%) motor oil.

TRIBOTECH IJP should not be used in conjunction with any other oil additive or engine treatment. However, TRIBOTECH IJP can be added at your next oil and filter change. Please note that TRIBOTECH IJP is not an oil substitute. It replaces an equivalent amount of oil.

TRIBOTECH IJP should not be used directly in an automatic transmission or in motorcycles with "wet" clutches since friction is required for these mechanisms to function properly.

Go to top

How soon should I begin using TRIBOTECH IJP with a new or rebuilt engine?

The earlier an engine is treated with TRIBOTECH IJP, the greater the overall benefit. Since TRIBOTECH IJP does not interfere with engineered tolerances, it can be used immediately following the manufacturer's recommended engine break-in period (usually between 500 and 1,000 miles). Please consult your owner's manual or engine rebuilder for exact specifications.
